Privateer – Spring Photo, Ben Vrackie

In Scotland Spring isn’t really a season. At best a state of mind, a removal of excuses. No longer is it acceptable assume the worst of the forecast.

It might be that the weather acts like it’s still the middle of winter, or it might be the closest thing you see to summer all year. Either way there is potential.

But Walkers, families, other cyclists are all thinking along similar lines. And when you’re lucky enough to have all the access to trails that you could possibly ask for, you sometimes have to do the polite thing, top up the hip flask and grab the bivi bag. An early evening ascent, followed by a wait, wondering: which season will tomorrow bring?
